Who is Edie?
She came into this world blue & gasping; strangled by her own umbilical chord. Her screams delayed until she was able to catch her first breath.
Once it started, the screaming never would stop.
Relentless.
But screaming in public is impolite, don’t you know?
Smile, darling. We just want to enjoy our Sunday.
She built up a pretty fortress, dutifully playing the role assigned to her. Banish your feelings and manage their view. Smile & it all will work out. All the while in her inner most chambers the noise was deafening.
Relentless.
When you are living in a house of cards, you’ll always be at risk of collapse. She borrowed scaffolding from others to keep herself steady. It would work for awhile… until inevitably, a breeze would come.
Each time: the walls would fall, a mess of debri on the floor.
Inevitably she would rebuild: trying slightly different approaches but always with the same borrowed materials she’d always used.
Finally, a gust stronger than any other she’d experienced swept in. Took everything away. The cards & scaffolding: gone.
She was left with nothing.
Funny thing about nothing is that it’s far better than a something that isn’t truly yours.
Exactly what she needed to finally shed the imposter of who she had been.
From the nothing came purpose.
From the nothing came Edie.
